In 1994, former Salisbury University student Kimberly Harrison collected folk material. She did her project on antique and classic cars. Growing up around car lovers, she developed a passion for them. In her paper, she recounts how her folkgroup started a car show (Cruisin') that became very popular in Salisbury, Md. She also talks about another car show that she regularly attended in Delaware (Harrison). She also describes her folkgroup and the different activities that take place during their gatherings. Folklife Collection - Folkgroup: Volkswagen Owners

In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents in 1993, Salisbury University students and teachers collected folk life material. For his final paper, Brian Starnes chose to study pre-1978 Volkswagen (VW) owners as a folk group. His paper includes a brief summary of the history of Volkswagen and describes the different types of cars it produced during its early years. In the second part of the paper, the student portrays a typical VW owner and talks about the different VW clubs and organizations. To supplement his research, he also interviewed several VW owners and clipped a few pages of VW specialized magazines that display the earlier models of the make. Tape enclosed.

Folklife Collection - Urban Legends: The Hook Man

For this collection, these interviews focus on various stories of the urban legend about a couple in a car who hear scratching outside, the boy goes to investigate and does not return. The girl and police find the boy the next day, murdered and all cut up. Thus the killer gaining the name of the Hooked Man. Most interviews include personal descriptions of the interviewer and informant, and the story.
